Dementia Carers Respite, a local charity providing respite support to family carers, is celebrating a significant milestone: we have now supported 30 families and are ready to help many more.
The carers we provide are professionals from established organisations operating under the umbrella of the Care Quality Commission (CQC). All carers are highly trained in dementia care and safeguarding and are DBS checked to ensure the highest standards of safety and support.
Qualifying families receive two hours of free respite care, twice a month, in their own home. Most importantly, this support continues for as long as respite care is needed.
What Our Clients Say
"You need that respite care to allow you to recharge and regroup. I would say it is your duty to be honest and take a break because you cannot do your job as a carer if you're exhausted. I never realised how tired I really was. There were days when all I wanted to do was sleep."
"Respite care would have to be at the top of my list of what makes a difference because it gives me my sanity. You can't do anything else, can you, without your sanity?"
Our Results
Our latest Client Satisfaction Survey achieved a score of 4.3 out of 5 (86%), and we continue to work hard to improve.
Following an invitation to 10 Downing Street, we were selected Charity of the year by three outstanding organisations, Chiltern Hospital, Nationwide and Fergal O'Brien Racing, all within a single year.
These achievements represent remarkable progress for a young but rapidly growing charity, delivering a vital service that is making a real difference to the lives of dementia carers and their families.
