Dame Barbara Windsor and Scott Mitchell were married for 27 years, in the latter years when she was living with dementia, Scott became her family carer, that is why he refers to these years as “the good the bad and the ugly “
Above is a photo of the cover of his book which he has kindly personally autographed to Walid & Paula Marzouk. Many thanks Scott, a lovely gesture, Paula and I will enjoy reading it.
I first met Scott at No 10 Downing Street on the 20th March for the Dame Barbara Windsor Dementia Mission when we had a small chat and agreed to meet.
Being very busy people, we finally managed to have a Zoom meeting recently, which was informative and enjoyable.
Scott has trained as an actor, and is now an agent to actors, People’s Champion to Dame Barbra Windsor Dementia Mission with £160 million planned for research and treatment. He is also Ambassador to Alzheimer’s Research UK and in his “spare time” he supports carers organisation such as ours.
The Zoom meeting was held initially with Paula and myself (see photo below, left is Scott ( photographer is now sacked !!).
Trustee Peter Healy joined later and we are delighted to say that Scott is willing to support us where and when he can. The newsletter we are planning to issue in the coming days will have a “Day in the Life” of a dementia family carer, to which Scott have agreed to provide at some stage first hand experience and he is happy to speak at events that we organise in the future, knowing that part of Buckinghamshire was Barbara’s old stomping ground where she perfected the phrase GET OUT OF MY PUB.
I know this Zoom meeting is the start of good long-term cooperation between our Charity and Scott Mitchell.
